Baraka
In class we watched a movie called Baraka. The entire movie was like a motion editorial with no words. The movie started with each places special natural wonders and then with what I thought was the showing of different religions and how they worship. It was interesting to see how places I didn’t even know existed worshiped and what clothes they wore. When I saw the group of men sitting in front of an idol throwing their hands up and yelling I wanted to know more. Who were they chanting to? Where were they from? And did they do it daily?
The second part of this movie was starting to steer into the real world and the circle of life. It showed Tokyo and the streets, people and cars going by but fast forwarded. It also showed baby chicks, what I am guessing, were going through the process of being killed. I noticed that the class shared sympathy for the chicks and some of the girls weren’t even watching this part. This struck me. I thought to close your eyes to life is to live in a world of innocence. Yes, it was sad to see them dying but that’s life. Life is about dying and rebirth. This movie really opened my eyes to other parts of the world and made me mature in my thoughts of the world. The only thing I would’ve liked was to know where each scene was at the time I was watching.

1 shot
for this activity we had to go out and take a shot of whatever we wanted but then show our teacher the one picture we were going to upload on our LCD screen for the assignment. i chose this one because the red is very rich and bright. Also because i liked how i got some background in the picture instead of using up the whole frame with the flower; i kept some of its element.

photo essay
As you know we are not just called the bay area for nothing. In the middle of our area we have a huge body of water that divides us.
The bay is enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people each year. People like to fish,
Make memories with the family,
And simply just come to have fun and take in that fresh sea air.
But, if we continue to trash our beloved bay….
...
...
Then all of this will be gone...

The scene is little kids in a tent. This was taken in Tent City that was home to African -American sharecroppers who were kicked off white land because they were registering to vote. Ernest Withers. He emphasize is on the kids. The mood to me seems scared and curious.
Sarah Shourd was a hiker that was captured in Iran and was recently freed. Sarah meets with her mother, Nora. Taken by Sultan al-Hasani. They took this in the center and it emphasizes the two women. The mood is bitter sweet because she is with her family but also she was kidnapped.
Kenza Drider is wearing a niqab, leaving a shop in Avignon, France. They have now banned full head dresses in France. Taken by Claude Paris. They took her in her normal outfit in her normal environment.
These cranes are helping the miners underground in Chile. Taken by Ariel Marinkovic. They took it in landscape mode and there isn’t one thing they emphasized one. The mood is hope.
A British Petroleum oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. The Image is of the response crews as they battle the flames. They put the action in the center of the frame. The emphasis is on the explosion and the boats. The impact of the photo is the damage and the problem we all know it caused.
